Anyone! These courses are intended for volunteers, employers, churches, and program participants within with World Relief network. To these users, courses are offered at no cost. For those unaffiliated with World Relief, many courses, including our volunteer role trainings, are available for purchase.
If you are a volunteer with World Relief, your volunteer coordinator will communicate with you about training requirements for the role(s) you are interested in. Volunteer roles vary in the amount of training prerequisites.
Yes! You will likely need to take more than one course for your volunteer role. Talk to your volunteer coordinator if you are interested in a course that is not required for your particular volunteer role(s).
This answer will vary depending on the course(s) you are required to take. Some, like the Orientation, are short and video-based. Others, such as trainings for skill-based roles like ESL tutoring, can include quizzes, written assignments that are uploaded into The Workshop, and discussion questions. The most time-consuming course is about 6 hours.
Expectations for finishing your course depend on your office. For example, you may have to complete a prerequisite course before attending a live orientation session. Your volunteer coordinators will let you know if they expect you to complete a course by a certain date or time frame. While the flexibility of an online course is convenient, we want to empower you to get started in your tutoring role in a timely manner.
Your first point of contact is your volunteer coordinator at World Relief. They can direct you to someone who can help you. Someone will be able to help you with issues like forgotten usernames and passwords, or if you need help navigating your course.
Some courses are offered at a price, but if you are volunteering with World Relief, you will receive a coupon code to enroll for free. You may also choose to pay for the course, even if you're offered a code, as a donation to World Relief. In the course preview, you will see contact information for a coordinator at your local World Relief office who can get you started on your training journey.
Some courses end with a completion certificate, which is yours to be proud of and share with your volunteer coordinator. While the knowledge and practice in these courses are applicable to opportunities outside of World Relief, they are intended to prepare you for your volunteering role, and do not come with a formal certification outside of this organization.
Your volunteer coordinator has access to your progress in The Workshop and will be notified when you complete your course. You may also want to let them know by email, so you can connect with them about your next-steps.
